Dell has launched its latest Flagship laptop – the Dell XPS 13, with the flavour of Ubuntu. Dell in a partnership with Canonical has launched Dell XPS 13 9370 Developer Edition with Ubuntu Linux 18.04 operating system. The first XPS 13 Developer Edition arrived more than five years ago and back then it had Ubuntu 12.04 installed.
The news Dell XPS 13 9370 Developer Edition comes with the starting price of US$973.99 for the core i5 model and goes up to US$2,073 for the top-end Core i7 variant. As of now, XPS 13 Developer Edition is only available in the US, but Europe and Canada will follow soon.
In terms of configurations, the Dell XPS 13 9370 Developer Edition sports a 13.3-inch 4K InfinityEdge touchscreen display with an option of touchscreen display as well. The laptop is powered by the latest Intel 8th generations Core i5/ i7 processors. The memory configuration starts from 4GB and goes up to 16GB, while the storage has been offered from 128GB SSD to 512 GB PCIe SSD. The laptop is fuelled by a 52 WHr battery.
The latest version of the XPS 13 is purely for developers and enterprise buyers but for those who are ready to go for costly MacBook Pro or annoyed by updates which have to follow in Windows 10 it provides a better option.
“When Project Sputnik debuted over five years ago we launched with one config of our XPS 13 developer edition on Ubuntu 12.04. Fast forward to today and thanks to the interest and support of the community, we are able to announce that our seventh generation XPS 13 developer edition now comes with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. 18.04 represent Project Sputnik’s fourth preloaded LTS. We’re already looking forward to Sputnik’s fifth LTS in 2020”, said Barton George, Project Sputnik and Linux boss at Dell.
“Building on our longstanding relationship with Dell over the last six years, we look forward to seeing 18.04 LTS roll out on further models in the coming months”, said Will Cooke, desktop engineering director at Canonical.
