Today Apple released iOS 11.1.1 for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Apple did not release any iOS 11.1.1 betas to developers or the public before it was rolled out today. Apple is currently testing iOS 11.2 — which is expected to support Apple Pay Cash and SiriKit for HomePod with limited third-party developer support. iOS 11.1.1 is the fifth update to iOS 11 following iOS 11.0.1, iOS 11.0.2, iOS 11.0.3 and iOS 11.1. And this version of iOS is a minor point update for iOS 11.1 with a couple of bug fixes.
iOS 11.1 included over 70 new emoji and the 3D multitasking gesture was brought back. And many bugs were fixed in iOS 11.1 such as a problem where Live Photo effects played back slowly and an issue that caused cleared Mail notifications to reappear on the Lock screen.
iOS 11.0.3 contained a bug fix for an issue where the audio and haptic feedback would not work on a number of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices. Plus iOS 11.0.3 fixed a problem where the touch input was unresponsive on some iPhone 6s displays since they were not serviced with genuine Apple parts.
The iOS 11.0.2 update fixed a bug that caused crackling noises in the iPhone 8 earpiece, a bug that prevented certain photos from appearing and a bug where attachments in S/MIME encrypted emails would not open.
And the iOS 11.0.1 update fixed a bug that caused synchronization issues in Outlook.com, Office 365 or an Exchange Server 2016 running on Windows Server 2016 in Apple Mail. Plus iOS 11.0.1 added performance improvements in the iMessage app Drawer, Springboard, and App Explorer.
iOS 11, the eleventh major version of iOS, was released on September 19th with dozens of new features. Some of the new features included Do Not Disturb While Driving, a new Files app, document scanning in the Notes app, an app drawer in the Messages app, a customizable Control Center, indoor airport and mall maps, lane guidance in the Maps app, Live Photos editing and multitasking tools for the iPad.
What Is Included In The iOS 11.1.1 Update?
In the release notes for iOS 11.1.1, Apple said that this software update fixes an issue with keyboard auto-correct and fixes an issue where Hey Siri stopped working.
Many people issued complaints to Apple about the auto-correct bug. That bug caused a problem where people would see the letter “i” being converted to an “a” with a question mark symbol in a box next to it while writing emails, text messages and social media posts.
Last week, Apple acknowledged the issue on a support page and suggested a workaround using the Text Replacement feature. The suggestion was to replace the Phrase “I” with the Shortcut “i” in the Text Replacement settings of your device to temporarily get around the issue. Fortunately, iOS 11.1.1 officially fixes that problem.
